What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a Government backed scheme that helps UK businesses to protect themselves from the most common cyber threats. The scheme allows UK-based organisations to gain one of two Cyber Essentials badges that demonstrate commitment to cyber security.

Since 2014 the UK Government has required all suppliers bidding for contracts involving handling of certain types of sensitive and personal information to be certified through the Cyber Essentials scheme.

The two levels of certification are:

Cyber Essentials

A self-assessment option that helps businesses to protect themselves against the most common cyber-attacks.

Cyber Essentials shows you how to address the basics of cyber defence, prevent the most common attacks, and the certification provides peace of mind.

Cyber Essentials Plus

Similar to the self-assessment option, Cyber Essentials Plus has an additional hands-on technical verification.

The Cyber Essentials Plus certification allows firms to dive deeper into the terminology of cyber security, further securing your IT systems against threats.
